Special Abilities Infrared glasses allow perfect vision in all lighting conditions, including total darkness, skilled surgeon, hand-to-hand combatant, exceptional agility, black-gas "blackout bombs", pet owl and crime-fighting assistant "Hooty."

While removing a bullet from a witness in a crime, Dr. Charles McNider was blinded by a grenade meant to silence his patient. During recovery from his injuries, McNider was startled when an owl crashed through his window. Removing his bandages to investigate, he found that he could see in perfect darkness. He later found that he could not see in daylight and developed special goggles and "black-out bombs" to help him see in light and fight crime. he adopted the owl, "Hooty," and joined The Justice Society of America to continue his fight against evil.

Long ago The Spectre defeated the Spirit of Wrath, exiling its physical manifestation to a black diamond called the heart of darkness. And so it remained until Dr. Bruce Gordon found a fragment -- and was possessed by Eclipso, the Earthly incarnation of the Spirit of Wrath. During a lunar or solar eclipse, Gordon's alter ego would grant him superhuman strength, light-powers and use him in its ancient schemes for control over all mortal beings. Since then, Eclipso has possessed others, and is ever ready to tempt and corrupt both superhumans and ordinary people.

Implanting samples of gold, iron, lead, tin, and mercury with their own responsometers, Magnus watched the metals take on humanoid shape and personalities. Iron quickly emerged as the backbone of the team. In all the challenges the metal men take on, Iron's super-strength and ability to withstand tremendous punishment put him on the front line of action.

Sister of Billy Batson, Mary was raised by a wealthy family in Fawcett City, reuniting with Billy years later when her adoptive parents were kidnapped by the villain Ibac. To save them, Mary (like her brother) was granted miraculous powers by the wizard "Shazam!", thus transforming her into a slightly older, super powered version of herself with the same abilities as Billy. Following the rescue, Mary continued to use her powers alongside "Shazam!" as defender of Fawcett City.

When honest cop James Corrigan was killed by gangsters, the ghostly spirit of vengeance appeared before him and offered him a second chance at "life." Corrigan agreed, becoming The Spectre, a ghostly avenger of evil deeds. But Corrigan was only one in a series of human hosts to The Spectre entity. The Spectre's methods are often harsh, violent and instill intense fear in his victims. If you gaze into his pure white eyes and feel fear, your days as a sinner are finished.
